遞迴性

Recursiveness

遞迴(recursion)是一種電腦科學與數學的方法,代表函式自我呼叫,常用於描述碎形、自然界的植物、費氏數列等有特定重複規則的事物。本區將遞迴的精神延伸爲「遞迴性」,作品在圖像和邏輯上均有自我複製、因隨機介入而產生多樣性的特質。 依照邏輯的複雜度,我們選擇了三種常見的表現。

1. Fractal Trees 樹狀分支

從一條線分支出數條線,直到成為一顆樹,這是經典的遞迴表現。這裡展出以樹為主題的〈Little Trees〉和以珊瑚為主題的〈Shape Observation〉之外,也精選表現不同但結構相似的〈CHROMATLAS, Vol. 7〉。

2. Subdivision 區塊分割

如果「分支」是線的遞迴應用,那麼延伸至平面或立體空間上,就可以分割出多個子空間。分割的疏密變化,可以呈現出對比的張力和豐富的細節。本分類展示了分割平面的〈Returns, Vintage QR Codes〉、〈Labyrinth〉、〈Megalopolis〉、〈Recursive and Blocks〉、〈(de)construction〉,立體的〈Divide by Circle〉,以及帶入 packing 演算法的〈Plottable Thousands〉。

3. Cellular Automata 細胞自動機

「細胞自動機」是一種離散模型,以一個方格為單位,各個單位互相影響,可用於模擬自然現象、細胞複製過程等。〈Nil〉以此產生區塊中的紋理,〈Muraka〉用它來模擬珊瑚細胞的動態生長,〈 adrift 〉則使用類似的原理產生城市。
